Yesterday was my 68th birthday. Yes, it wasn't pleasant growing up with my birthday on Christmas. The combined birthday/Christmas gifts that saved my parents and grandparents time and money weren't noticed when I was really little but I figured it out when I turned 10. Then the birthday presents wrapped in Christmas paper really hurt.
Eight years ago my husband, Robert, put an end to all of that. He gave me a refurbished baby grand piano. It was 98 years old at that time. That makes it 106 years old and you should hear it rumble! Maybe I'll video myself playing it sometime and share it here!
We had a wonderful time together yesterday. We feasted and played games. Then I opened my birthday presents and I'm still smiling.
My daughter-in-law made me some cards on her printer to send out to others. They are so lovely. She also gave me some Vitamin C lotion that "Really works" on removing wrinkles. As my mother would say, "Time will tell." LOL
A client/ friend had given me some birthday presents when we were both in Bismarck last week. There was a lovely tote that says "Be Still and Know." Indeed, for God says that we can know Him if we will be still before Him. How wonderful to think that God wants to be known by us!
The most amazing gift from Connie was a wooden box hand crafted by a man her husband learned was with him in Vietnam during that war. It has a secret key and it slides open to reveal a hidden compartment. We discussed what could go in there and my daughter-in-law had a wonderful idea. I'm going to put prayer requests inside so it will be a prayer box. If anyone wants to check out this incredible craftsmanship, you can go to Carver Dan.
My son tuned my piano yesterday as his love gift. Now it sounds oh so good!!! YAYYYYY!
My daughter's family gave me my birthday presents when we were at her house last weekend. Cora and Michael gave me some pretty dishtowels; a new piano (with lyrics) hymn book; the Amplified Bible in LARGE PRINT; and (my favorite birthday gift) a calendar with our family pictures of 2025. That way all next year I can remember all of the wonderful times with family this year!!!
My granddaughter gave me a beautiful mug that she paid EIGHT DOLLARS for. She told me herself. :) It has one of my favorite scriptures on it: Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart and lean NOT on your own understanding!" Proverbs 3:5 It is so special to know my grandchildren are growing up knowing that God wants to bless them with a wonderful life if they put their trust in Him!
My son Jacob gave me a copper bracelet that I had put on my birthday wishlist. My neighbor and dear friend, Luci, was doing research and found that copper helps MS patients so I'm going to give it a try.
I'm not sure why I was supposed to tell you about my birthday presents. It seems rather juvenile but I do what the Holy Spirit tells me to do. May it bless someone out there.
To me, my greatest blessings are the family that God helped Robert and I to nurture! There are 15 of us with another baby on the way next July. Then, too, my son Jacob has found an amazing gal. We're all hoping he'll propose to her soon. ;)
It's interesting that I can tell you all things that I can't tell those closest to me. You ought to send me a bill for the therapy you send my way by listening to all of my cares and concerns! Also, I can feel your prayers often and I hope you can feel the prayers I send your way! True, I don't know your personal needs but I often pray for my readers in the countries I hear need prayer in the news.
We're getting ready for our New Year's Eve party. For several decades we have offered those who don't want to consume any alcohol a place to go as the year ends. We're having our party in the shop this year so will have LOTS more room for friends to gather. Want to come?
There hasn't been a bathroom in that building as there was no water there until recently. This Summer we had a septic system put in and we got the water hooked up. These past few weeks Robert and our sons have been working on putting up sheetrock; installing lights; and today they're mudding the cracks. I offered to help paint, when the mud is dry, so hopefully it will look good enough for guests by next Wednesday.
That's about all for now except that I saw a weasel on our back steps yesterday. He was white as could be with a black tip on his tail and a black nose. We haven't decided if we're going to trap him or welcome him to the neighborhood as they eat rodents. I'll let you know later what we decide.
I should probably go and make lunch but I sure do like writing. Can you tell? The hard part is picking a title for each post. Did you know that there are whole articles written about how to pick a catchy title for your blog?
Well, in case I don't have time to write again, I'll close with HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Thanks for listening,
Dawn
PS. Luci sent me a bunch of birthday greetings yesterday. I'll share my favorite one.
