This just in

I feel like a reporter but I suppose that every blogger IS a reporter of things in their part of the world.  Anyway, Nikki McAlpin who managed Paul Sorum's campaign, just wrote this in an email this morning.  I asked her if she minds my sharing it with the world and she just wrote back saying that she doesn't.

Folks, THIS is why we needed Paul Sorum to be our next Governor but, of course, the establishment made sure that it wouldn't happen--the rats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Are YOU aware that good people are leaving our state???  Are you aware that native North Dakotans are being run off of their farms in the name of oil money?

Nikki, like all of us here, was hoping to persuade Paul to run in the primaries however her desperation couldn't grasp his commitment to his word last week not to do so.   Here's Nikki's email in it's entirety.  I totally understand her urgency to get Paul to run in the primaries and applaud her efforts to save her farm and her way of life.  What kind of a wimp gives up their farm without a fight?  I grieve with her and I hope and pray that your heart will be pricked to get involved and voice an outcry to our Governor (he wants the privileges then he should take his responsibilities too) against what is happening in Western North Dakota.

FOR PEACE AND QUIET EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dawn

Good morning,
I want to explain all the contradicting emails last night. It's my fault, not Paul's.

I don't think people realize the extend of the mass destruction and killing of our North Dakota lives that is happening out here. Dalrymple, his cronies, and his big-money backers do not give a rip about killing our people, and they're too stupid to realize that they should be protecting our agriculture. I can't tell you how many letters are in our papers telling of the stupidity of destroying agriculture, most with the inclusion of "are you going to eat and drink oil?" We have a nation to feed, a growing population, and this idiot government we have, destroys our agriculture - our food supplies - over oil... pummeling us down as if every drop of oil has to be extracted yesterday. They are the epitome of 'greed breeds stupid'.

I also wish you could see the daily headlines in every paper telling of the destruction of our people and our lives out here. While the fools in office tell every blood-sucker in the country to 'come out here to ND... buy up our lands... wipe out our people... build up your business... and you don't have to pay any taxes to do it!' ...only the North Dakotans have to pay the taxes.... it's our own money the Hoeven-Dalrymple dynasty uses to beat us down with.... they destroy our lives.

Paul Sorum has been the ONLY person who has come out here, acknowledged the truth of the mass destruction, realized the critical need to PROTECT AGRICULTURE, and care about the PEOPLE. We know that if we cannot get Paul into office, we are doomed. And that is not an exaggeration. Our senior citizens have already been shoved out of their own homes and even their own state... those incredible people who overcame every obstacle to settle our homesteads and lands, and make ND what it is today. The oil money and greed has literally stolen their homes, and they've had to move out of state, every one of them was over 80 years old. Can you even try to imagine the heartbreak and the fear of that?

Ranchers are selling out and moving out. In their stead, comes concrete, greed, and crime that has been unheard of in our lives. Do you have any idea what it's like to sleep with a pistol within finger-reach of your pillow? In our own homes? Every single door has now had to have locks put on them. Our barns, tack rooms, and trailers now have to be locked. Women are being taught how to use weapons of self-defense, and most of us carry pistols everywhere we go now. THIS is what the idiots Dalrymple, Hoeven, their cronies, and big-money backers have done to our people.

The demise of agriculture is also devastating. How are cattle supposed to live with no grazing lands and no water? And where will crops be planted when the lands are concrete?

The devastation is unreal.

I pushed Paul to allow me to at least get signatures for him to be in the primary. We so desperately need a leader who will protect our state, our people, and our lands. But, when he said okay to the 'signatures', he agreed to it as a 'just in case' scenario. I, however, was more desperate and ecstatic than sensible. He had not agreed to run in the primary yet. Thus, my huge error in the emails last night. I had been working on plans, letters, and fliers to run in the primary, since we returned from Bismarck... and I went way ahead of where Paul had agreed to, when I sent out what I did.

So, I apologize for the confusion, and want to make sure you understand the blame is completely mine.

If we can't get the establishment out of power, we are doomed out here. Brett and I will join the many ranchers who are selling out and leaving, as crime and destruction kill our cattle, our lands, our water, and our lives. We have gone from a quiet, great place to live, to the pit of the country. And the state slogan can be in the spotlight, nationwide, "Greed Breeds Stupidity - all bloodsuckers welcome".

Talk to ya later,
Nikki

In charge

"God has not gone on vacation and left you in charge."  This is the thought for today on my "Famous Christian quotes" section of my iGoogle home page.  How I wish that many of our government leaders would grasp this concept.  Who really IS in charge of this country and our world?  The Republicans?  The Democrats?  I should hope not.

I think it's the nature of the beast that government corrupts good men.  That's why Thomas Jefferson said, "We must bind them (government officials) down with the chains of the Constitution."  The chains to our elected officials ARE our freedoms.  If we're not constantly reminding them that we are well aware of our rights, then we are weak and they will, and have already, taken advantage of our ignorance.

There is one man who is fighting hard for the rights of our people here in North Dakota.  I know that you're probably thinking I'm going to say, "It's Ron Paul," but I was referring to Mr. Paul Sorum this time.  Mr. Sorum has gone out of his way to help the people of North Dakota.  We're so ignorant that we don't even realize the ways that fellow North Dakotans are suffering in the Western part of our state.  One friend of mine bought a pistol because she doesn't feel safe anymore in their small town.

Please take a moment to read Mr. Sorum's pledge to North Dakota which I copied off of his website.  Also, if you're impressed with what you read, please make a donation to his campaign at his website:  sorumforgovernor.com  Like I just told Jacob right now, the young people are going to live in this country a whole lot longer than I am and it's his generation that needs to come on board and start making a difference.  Who's in charge of the world?  God is.  Who's in charge of our great republic--WE ALL ARE!!!!!!!!

For freedom,

Pledge to North Dakota – A Future That Works

In the face of unprecedented opportunity in North Dakota, the inefficient “business as usual” approach to governing must be reversed. I pledge to make the following reforms to ensure freedom and prosperity for a future that works:
Big Spending …Since 2001, State spending has increased 135%; personal income 26%. I will limit state spending increases to the corresponding rate of increase in personal income.
Debt … North Dakota’s debt and liabilities per capita is 4th highest in the Nation ($3,181 per citizen). In my administration, I will reduce the debt and liability per capita NOT increase it.
Tax Burden … North Dakota’s tax burden on business is higher than all states except Alaska. In my administration, this burden will be reduced making North Dakota competitive with other states.
Government Jobs … In North Dakota, 1 new government job (Federal, state or local) has been created for every 3 new citizens since 2000. As governor, I will streamline state government to be a role model of efficiency for all other the states.
Government Jobs … 1 in 5 jobs in North Dakota are government jobs, this is unsustainable. My administration will create an environment where challenging private sector jobs will be available to everyone.
Out Migration … Our young people continue to exit the state to find career opportunities unavailable here. My administration will focus on eliminating the barriers that keep business and industry from coming to North Dakota.
Water & Roads … There is currently no vision or plan for resolving statewide water and road issues. Using my experience in design and construction, I will work in collaboration with engineers and resolve both.
Low Wages … North Dakota has the third highest percent of people in the Nation working two jobs. I pledge to change that so people will only need to work two jobs if they want to do so.
Credit Rating … North Dakota’s AA+ credit rating is lower than 12 other states. I pledge to take the steps necessary to make North Dakota’s credit rating AAA+, the highest in the Nation.
Education K-12 … According to the North Dakota University System’s own study, only 1 in 4 high school graduates are adequately prepared to enter college. My administration will initiate the necessary steps to change this dismal outcome.
Higher Education … North Dakota’s higher education system is out of control — fewer than 22% of entering freshmen actually graduate in four years. My administration will shine a light on why this is happening and provide leadership to change it.
Infrastructure … In spite of rapid growth in North Dakota’s oil industry, leadership has failed to develop a detailed plan for infrastructure to facilitate long-term growth. My administration will immediately implement a strategic plan to finance and build necessary infrastructure in Western North Dakota.
As a candidate for Governor of North Dakota, I bring proven knowledge and experience in all aspects of our state’s needs. I invite you to embrace our vision to ensure that North Dakota’s best days are yet to come.
Paul Sorum, Candidate for Governor of North Dakota
